1944 April 25, VRBA–WETZLER REPORT, (Auschwitz Report)
Was written by Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler who had escaped from Auschwitz Auschwitz. Oscar Krasniansky, an engineer, translated it from Slovak into German. They were able to produce a detailed report on the structure, workings, and methods of the camp - including the entire annihilation process. A copy did reach George Mandel- Mantello a Jewish diplomat in Geneva who published them throughout the Swiss press and churches. Copies were also sent by Rabbi Dov Weissmandl (see July 1941) as part of the Bratislava working group Jewsh leaders and the American Delegation in Bern as well. It took Roswell McClelland of the American delegation in Switzerland almost six months to forward the full text of the report to the State Department. Weissmandl appealed for the bombing of the camps, but was rebuffed.
